DSLR Users Group Meeting March 19

Our next DSLR User's Group Meeting is scheduled on Thursday March 19 from 7pm - 9pm at the Robinson Nature Center. We have two terrific talks planned by CMPG members Sally Stevens and Sue Izard. Don't miss these two presentations and demos!

Sally Stevens: Techniques and Accessories for Photographing Jewelry and Crafts
Sally and her daughter, Shannon, collaborate to design and fabricate unique, original jewelry items (pieces) using metal, clays and enamels (glass and metal). As part of her Sunroom Studios business, Sally needs to be able to photograph jewelry, glass and other small items to effectively capture and present their form, texture, and color in a pleasing manner for presentation on the web for her existing clients, and to attract new clients. This form of photography can be challenging; it requires skill and the application of photographic techniques to ensure a successful presentation of her art work. Sally will present and demonstrate the solutions and techniques to apply when using a DSLR camera to capture the subject using the best lighting and exposure, ensuring proper depth-of-field, and the techniques and accessories needed to avoid shadows, reflections, and hot spots. Although this talk focuses on photographing jewelry, it should be of interest to many other members that have hobbies and crafts that may need to be photographed and presented on-line.

Sue Izard: Creating an Effective Web Presence with SmugMug
Working as a professional photographer the last eight years, Sue has photographed a wide variety of subjects including, high school seniors, family portraits, weddings, commercial product photography, and real estate photography. A recent piece of work will soon be printed in a nationally distributed women's magazine. Having an effective web presence is clearly vital to the success of any commercial photographer. Smugmug is a website service designed with the photographer in mind. It's easy to use and great for your first try at a website. Sue has used Smugmug for 10 years and as any other tool it has its pros and cons. She will present the various features of the Smugmug software, the many different creative opportunities it affords the photographer, touch lightly on a few marketing ideas, and examine the basic business practicalities that the software offers. If you are thinking of starting your own web site for a business, or to simply share your photos with family and friends, this is a presentation not to be missed!
