July outing Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens

For our July meeting we will visit Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens Downtown DC.
Saturday July 12 - meet at the Route 100 Park and Ride at 7am which should get you to Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens around 8am. The Park opens at 7am and I will meet everybody there since I live in the vicinity.

The outing is open ended - we'll finish up when everybody has made enough images. If you like to arrive earlier or later, please let me know and note my cell number is 443 801 1732

The park entrance is located at 1550 Anacostia Avenue, NE, Washington, DC 20019 which is just off the Baltimore Washington Parkway (Rt 295) a little south of Route 50. There is no admission fee to the park.

This National Park is one of the remaining wetland areas in DC and remnants of the original wetlands can be seen to this day. Each summer thousands of Lotus bloom in the several ponds. There are also several types of water lilies in bloom.
Wildlife includes birds, otters, muskrats, amphibians and insects including various species of dragon flies. There should be something for every nature lover to photograph. Of course the various park visitors also make good subjects, particularly the children can make quite cute images.

Early mornings are best since the wildlife is most active and the number of visitors (except photographers) is generally lower that late morning onwards. Expect quite a few photographers to be already there. Reflectors can come in useful as will Macro lenses for closeups of blooms and smaller wildlife. Using a tripod in the park is personal preference, it is certainly allowed.
