Hi everyone,
Let me introduce myself, I’m Ed Charest your new Exhibits Coordinator for 2015. I’d like to bring you up to speed on what’s on the calendar for this year’s gallery shows. Thanks to WarrenVon Uffel for setting up these exhibits and for guiding me through the process.
1. Howard County Welcome Center Aug. 29th to Nov. 21st
Location: 8267 Main St., Ellicott City, MD 21043. This is a great opportunity for CMPG members. Not only did we display our photos in their visitor’s center last year, they purchased the rights to some of the pictures in the show and also published others in their Visitors Guide http://digital.ipcprintservices.com/publication/?i=241258.
This year theme is “Haycation”. I know, what’s a haycation? Well one definition is a haycation is a getaway vacation where you stay on a farm and can be involved in the daily chores with the farmers.
But I think this link will better help to explain the theme of a haycation and what the Welcome Center is looking for: http://www.visithowardcounty.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/media-advisory-Take-A-Haycation-in-Howard-County-2014.pdf
It's clearly not all about working on farms. Look through the pages and you'll see things like the Merriweather Post Pavilion, Clark's Elioak Farm, Columbia Horse Center, Turf Valley, Howard County Fair, Howard County Conservancy's Fall Festival, u-pick farms, etc. Of course if you really want, you can go on a farm and help milk the cows or feed the pigs and chickens. Remember that the exhibit isAug.29th to Nov. 21st and some of the activities listed take place after the exhibit. You might have photos already in your archives that will fit their theme. Photo Submissions will open in JULY.
2. Howard County Conservancy Oct. 17th to Nov 21st
Location: 10520 Old Frederick Road, Woodstock, MD 21163. We’ve been invited back to this gallery several times. If you never been to the Conservancy bring your camera and walk their beautiful grounds and don’t forget to stop in to their gallery for a peek. http://hcconservancy.org/index.php. This year’s theme is “Patapsco River Valley”. Remember the Conservancy is all about nature.
Photo Submissions for this exhibit will open in August.
As we get closer we’ll firm up the open and closing submissions dated for the both shows. I’m also looking into displaying at the Columbia Art Center and the Howard Counter Center for the Arts. If you like to help in anyway please let us know. You’re always welcome.
We’re looking forward to seeing your photos and good luck!
Best,
Ed Charest, Exhibits Coordinator
